September 30, Sunday 8:30-10:17pm
So here's the scoop: I have been infected with the viral plague. I am carrying a horrible disease, in my opinion. I have been trying to work on this storyboard since I got up from my nap, but I feel horrible. I don't know if it's going to get done or if my tweens are going to get done. I'm going to try after classes tomorrow (if I go), but I'm not sure. I still have to add sounds to my animations, which I'm planning on doing tomorrow as well.... So I'm sorry. I'm going to try my hardest naturally but it feels like a Rhino is head butting my throat. Hope you like the imagery. I'll report back tomorrow!

Shape Tweening
September 27, Thursday 2:49pm
Alright so I have done a few shape tweens. I have to find some sounds for a few of them. I'm planning on doing at least two more, including a really complicated one. I'm thinking about a really cool word animation with characters as well. For the storyboard homework I'm thinking about doing a wine glass, because I have a cool idea for it. It might be a little too Beauty and the Beast like, but I think it would be really fun to do. I have always loved that movie too much for my own good! I will report back on this and the other sounds that I still have to catch up on!

Sound
September 27, Thursday 12:33pm
Alright, so Cierra just showed me how to put sound into my animations so I will be uploading those to the server sometime this weekend, probably tomorrow. I have all the sounds on my laptop I just didn't know how to make audacity work so I will be uploading those soon! I feel a little behind but I have caught up with the other things. I also have been reading The Illusion Of Life and I really like it so far! So I will update again and announce when I have uploaded my animations with sound.

Sounds
September 23, Sunday 1:46pm
Alright so I found the sounds I want for my animations and downloaded them but couldn't figure out how to put them with them on my own so I will be asking on Tuesday! I also came up with the idea for the shape tween, but I haven't been able to come up with the text animation. I'm going to keep thinking about it while I do other homework, but I can't come up with anything right now which is frustrating. But I will post when I come up with an idea of some kind!

Research Project/ Presentation
September 23, Sunday 1:19pm
Okay, so I would really love to do a research project about Glen Keane and his amazing contributions to character animating. I personally think his work says enough but the actual processes he went through truly inspires me beyond anything else I've even seen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cDC9ExkZYE
This link really says it all. He spent so much time to get something so amazing. I think he helped make people believe that animation can be considered fine art instead of just silly little drawings and I aspire to carry on that tradition.

Ben Burtt
September 22, Saturday 8:27pm
I finally got around to listening to the Ben Burtt recording and it was hard to focus on every sound he has made but I feel like I took something important away from it. I feel that I learned that sounds can come from anywhere and it is important to do field recordings and test different things. I think that's very exciting, especially when working on your own individual animations.
I have many ideas for my animations sound wise, but some of the sounds are difficult to describe. I will try any ways.
Flipbook: I would really like to include the squishing sound but I feel as though I need more. I need the splashing sound in the beginning and the falling sound, and maybe even an ominous sound for when the character looks up if I can fit it in there. It's a very short animation so we'll see how much I can fit in there.
Object: For the "fly" or bug or whatever it is, I would like a zooming sound, and then another splat, almost squishing sound for when it hits the wall.
Objects: I would really like for there to be many noises in this one, although I'm not certain how I will get it. I would really like a sound for the hopping of the flea each time it hits the ground and I would also like a sound for when it comes from the top of the screen and falls in the hole again.
Obstacle: For the obstacle animation I would just like a large gulping sound and a licking sound for near the end.
That is all until I report on my makeup work!!

Obstacle Animation
Monday September 17, 8:13pm
Okay, so I thought we only had to come up with an idea for the obstacle animation, not knowing that I had to animate it, otherwise I would have done it Saturday. So I animated a dog eating a hotdog and I think the quality could have been better and the tongue didn't stay the same size but it's not awful. I'm generally harder on myself than most people are, but I wish I had more time. I would have worked on it earlier... But I'm still semi happy with it for what time I did put into it.

Object Animation Complete
September 15, Saturday 4:20pm
Okay that took a lot tell time than I anticipated. I think because it was something as easy as a flee and a hole it took only twenty minutes, but I really think I'm understanding squash and stretch which makes me very happy! So now I'm off to work on my storyboard.

Interacting Object Animation and Storyboard
Saturday September 15, 3:58pm
Due to technical complications during class, I am just starting my interacting object animation. And after I finish that, in a few hours or so hopefully less, I will start on my storyboard. Luckily there are no computer issues on my laptop! I will report back after the animation is done.

Two Objects and One Object Animation(overview.)
September 12th, Wednesday 6:49pm
Ok, so I have an awesome I idea for the two object project. I was thinking a blog that moves like a slinky almost, like that liquid that moves. I can't think of what movie... Oh Flubber! Like Flubber, where he's kind of a solid, kind of a liquid. Well I want him to be sucked down a drain, which will just be like an outline of a hole.
My one object animation went very well I feel, although it looks like a much slower bug than a fly. Maybe I could play it off as a bee, or a massive fly like they have in Japan, because those don't move quickly at all. It's not incredibly slow or anything, I just feel like it could be faster if I picked up the frame rate of took out some frames. But I'm actually so happy with it that I would much rather name it a different bug.
So I am going to go sketch out my two objects, so I can bring it in and show it off tomorrow for you to see in class. I really like the idea, so I will get right on it and then dreaded Art History homework. Although I have to say, I kept singing songs from the animated movie Prince of Egypt because she was talking about Egypt and I don't even care that's it's the completely wrong time period in Egypt! That was my little animation thought yesterday before animation even began.

Class Post: Object1
September 11, Tuesday 1:46pm
My fly looks pretty awesome. I don't want to toot my own horn here, but I'm pretty proud. I might add something cool to the end, just to give it a little wow factor or something. I have to go back and work some of the animation in the middle a little bit but otherwise I think it looks pretty good! Not that I would say it out loud. I had the fly hit the wall and slide down in the end actually. It looked pretty awesome but it looks more like another kind of flying bug than a fly. It's not quite fast enough to be a fly. We also learned about the twelve principles of animation. I'm going to look for any example right now to post on openclass so that I don't forget later. I think Jessica Rabbit would be perfect for appeal though. We'll see if she comes up when I google it.

Flip Book 2
September 11, Tuesday 12:39pm
Alright so last night actually only took until 8:49pm. I know that Richard Williams is against listening to music while you animate but it made it go by so much faster. I was very excited that the actual squishing of the little girl looked better, but I still can't get the shoe to be the same size. Curses! It does look pretty good in my opinion though, although the light table makes the drawings look a little less authentic and almost changes the drawing style. I'm proud of my fluent squishing though!

Flip Book #2
I will be working on this flipbook probably all night. I'm in the Hardy building and will probably be here for awhile. I'm on frame 24, and I know the flash animation looks a lot better, which frustrates me. Oh and it is Monday September 10, 7:58pm

Flash Animation
Saturday September 8th, 2:30-4:30pm
Ok so it only took me two hours to finish the last frames of my flash animation. I really like it, except no matter how hard I try I can't get the shoe to be the same size and that was what I did for most of the two hours I was working on. So now I just have to work on the other flipbook and figure out what objects to do for next class. I'm really leaning towards the fly because I really like drawing them for some reason. I don't know what else I'm going to do yet but I'll keep thinking about it. Anyways I'm very glad that my flash animation is done and I'm happy with the quality. Well I'm sure I will be until I see the other students. That's generally the case.

Reading Pages 35-69
Friday, September 7th 7:30-7:50pm.
I read the chapter, and I agree with him that timing is everything. I do like the use of key frames, because I feel like it would make it far easier to animate. I don't exactly like the concept of "inbetweeners." I understand that they have their place in animation, and it helps expedite things but I feel like it takes out some of the magic from the animation. I know that's probably how I'll start off, as one of them but I really think that animation would have more character without them. It would take much longer to produce an animation but it would be better, at least in my opinion.
Anyways, I really liked the reading. I feel like it breaks down the successful combination of going with the flow and doing key poses. I would like to try some of the techniques. Well after Studio Forum homework and the event I will continue to work on my flash animation.

Class 2 Update
September 4th, Tuesday 2:51pm
So I worked until 1am last night and my pen ran out of ink so I got up early and found a pen and continued to work on it. I barely finished between art history and this class and I have never freaked out so much in my life. I always get things done early! The critique made me very nervous. They always make me feel like I'm going to throw up. I worked really hard on it, and there were a few shaky parts but I was relieved that some nice things were said, especially since I was feeling really anxious about it. I feel like I learned a lot about how I over complicate things so I'm going to try to get the next one done by next class since I feel more confident about it. I was also excited when my light box was mentioned, since I felt kind of proud of that ugly thing. I also liked the compliment on my fly zoetrope and my ninja one. I am looking forward to making my squished girl flip book work and I'm also going to be a nerd and put my first flip book on youtube. I will link it when I re-update.

Flip book continued 3
September 3rd, Monday 7:41 pm
So I am on frame 62 now of the predraw. I have been very distracted, so it will be a long night for me. I feel the homestretch of it coming, and I saved some work by myself by doing the most important part all out.... But I will have to go back with pen anyways so.. Very long night ahead.

Flip Book Continued 2
Sunday September 2nd 6:40pm
I feel like I update too much but it helps me feel on track. After the creation of my light box, I have gone from 7 to 40 frames in about an hour. The drawings are just rough sketches so I can get a feel for how it's going to play out. I'm then going to make them all detailed and then ink them. SO! 40 down, 58 more to go! And then I have to go back to them all! But I have plenty of music so it's going by quickly!

September 2nd, Sunday 5:25
I made my own light box, so if I want very similar frames it will go more quickly. I used glass from a picture frame, a cardboard box and a lamp. It works!!! I'm only on frame 7 buy it took me awhile to make it. Hello a whole night of work! But it actually makes me really happy!

First Flip Book
September 2, Sunday 1pm
I haven't attempted to make a flipbook in years. Probably not since I was eleven or twelve. And I feel like it's very daunting, because this is the only class I want to prove myself in. I don't want to prove that I can do this to my teacher or relatives. I want to prove it to me. I went on youtube to look at other people's flipbooks. I have a general idea of what I want to do, but I always make things too complicated. I'm also worried that my idea will make it too personal because it's so close to my heart and so close to who I am right now. I know I can make it look great but with only two days to work on it and I'm nervous about it. I probably think too much, my best friend says I always do. I'm going to look at a few more videos and then maybe start on the flipbook. I'll report back to this blog!
